Everything you need to know in order to make your first quilt! This class covers the complete quilt making procedure from start to finish, and looks in detail at every area you need to know about: Equipment and materials, cutting techniques , machine settings, threads and machine needles, pressing, 'layering up', battings/waddings, quilting designs with sewing demonstrations, 'square up' your quilt, bind the edges, with the neatest straight edges, mitred corners and and imperceptible joins. Raw Edge Appliqué
A deep dive into satin stitch including how to create perfect satin stitch circles and how to deal with corners and points. Moving on to Blanket stitch we cover perfect circles, smooth curves and sharp points. Finally Philippa takes a look at a range of free motion techniques for raw edge appliqué.
Everything you need to know to include Trapunto in your quilts, including which materials to use - wadding/batting and water soluble thread, machine settings, sewing machine feet, and the full process to get outstanding results. Moving on to Corded Trapunto (or Yarn Trapunto), looking at which yarns to use, how to create the channels, and how to deal with curves, corners and long sections. Finally Philippa reviews different ways she has used Trapunto in three of her award winning quilts.
Prairie Points and Rouleau loops
In this class Philippa shows how to make Prairie points in four different styles, with two methods of stitching them to the quilt. Moving on to Rouleau loops, Philippa demonstrates several methods to turn Rouleaus through; how to press them into a range of curves; options for arranging them along the edge of your quilt facing outwards or inwards; and methods of using Rouleau to create circular medallions.
Stems and Bias Strip Appliqué
This class offers several methods for stems and bias strips. Starting with skinny strips to use as stems, adding embellishments, and turning corners with a mitre. Then looking at wavy/curved bias strips using stitched and pressed methods. Moving on to yarn fillings to provide padding, and how to create twisted strips. At the end there are examples and methods to use wider strips in garments.
Free Motion Feathers
This class offers a comprehensive look at free-motion feathers. Covering straight feathers, optimum sizes and shapes, narrow and wide options. Curved feathers and a circular wreath of feathers. Alternative shapes and options - working out from the middle, leaf and flower motifs. Drafting designs for incorporating feathers. Designs for turning corners. Random feather designs for bushes and trees. The all-over feather large, small and miniature.

Creative Curved Piecing
Creative Curved Piecing is a brand new class looking in detail at the curved piecing methods which Philippa has used to create her award winning quilts. It starts by reviewing how to turn a straight line design into a creative curved design. Philippa then shows how to turn the design into a pattern, how to create the freezer paper templates, and then how to cut out and join the pieces to make the block. The class includes the template which Philippa created in the class, and which you can download and use for your sample.

Starting with turned edge reverse appliqué, looking at Philippa's miniature quilt featuring reverse applique circles; hand stitch and machine stitch options for turned edge work; managing corners and sharp points. Moving on to raw edge reverse appliqué using interfacing with several stitch options, and a quick look at a way of using on a tee shirt. Next a look at the Mola technique using Philippa's 'Colourful Cockerel' mola project including downloadable templates. Quilt as Desired
Many quilt patterns explain how to piece together the quilt top, and then when it comes to the quilting just use the generic phrase 'Quilt as desired'! In this class Philippa shows you how she approaches the quilt design process, and helps you see how your quilt top already suggests a variety of quilting possibilities. She explores, in detail, a range of different machine techniques. These include stitch-in-the-ditch, drafted straight and curved lines, free motion lines, couching of decorative threads and using your machine's pre-programmed embroidery stitches for dramatic and different quilting patterns. A really useful resource to continue your quilt-making journey.
The patchwork cushions class shows you how to turn your beautiful blocks into perfectly executed cushions. Single sided, double sided, flanged and piped. Hidden zips and embellished with buttons. In no time your blocks will become home furnishing works of art - keep for yourself or give as a gift.
Philippa Naylor has won major awards for her miniature quilts, and in this class Philippa shares the techniques she uses to get amazing results on a miniature scale. Starting from basics Philippa considers the particular requirements of miniature quilts on fabric, threads and needles, very accurate measuring and cutting. Then working on her new design 'Hello Dolly', Philippa demonstrates a range of techniques in miniature.
Starting with the 'Print Wave' quilt top design, Philippa explores fabric choices and composition, assembly techniques for rows including using tubes. Moving on to the 'Medallion Bargello' quilt top design, Philippa further examines the bargello design process, using grids in pattern design, twisted bargello patterns. Finally the QQT Bargello bag project including all the techniques explained and demonstrated to make an attractive Bargello bag.
Double Wedding Ring And Pickle Dish Quilts
Drafting a pattern for the Double Wedding Ring block in any size and creating foundation piecing templates using bank paper; the best techniques for assembling the melon sections and then joining the sections together into the double wedding ring design. Moving on to the Pickle Dish block Philippa demonstrates two methods for creating the Pickle Dish melons including the design process, fabric choices and design ideas.
Create a three dimensional flower basket block using various techniques to create a range of flowers and leaves. Rose and carnation like flowers, rouched flowers, flowers with individual petals, Maltese cross flowers, Suffolk puffs to use as the centres, and finally tiny flower buds. Strappy leaves, turned through leaves with and without wiring, and satin stitch leaves. Finally a bagged out basket with wadding/batting, how to use Rouleau strips to create interest.
Feathered Star Quilt With Le Moyne Star Centre
In this class Philippa uses a Le Moyne star as the centre block of a larger Feathered Star quilt. Philippa starts by showing how to draft the quilt and create the templates. (The templates are also available as a downloadable file.) The Le Moyne star is cut and assembled with perfect points and careful pressing to reduce bulk in the centre. The feathered units are then cut and assembled. Finally the border is added and further options for finishing are discussed.
