In this class Philippa shows you how to create a three dimensional flower basket block using various techniques to create a range of flowers and leaves.
The class is based on Baltimore Album Quilts which became popular from the 1840s onwards.
Starting with materials and tools Philippa shows you everything you need to know to create a beautiful Dimensional Applique Flower Basket Block. The class includes over three hours of videos which you can watch as often as you want, whenever you want. There is no time limit so you can come back to the class as often as you like.
What you will learn to make:
- Five different types of flowers
- Three different types of leaves
- Enhancing the basket with rouleau
- Tips on design and layout
Starting with flowers Philippa creates rose and carnation like flowers, rouched flowers, flowers with individual petals, Maltese cross flowers, Suffolk puffs to use as the centres, and finally tiny flower buds.
Moving on to leaves, Philippa creates strappy leaves, turned through leaves with and without wiring, and satin stitch leaves.
Next Philippa demonstrates how to make a bagged out basket with wadding/batting, and how to use Rouleau strips to create interest.
Finally Philippa shares design and layout considerations, how to hand stitch the flowers into place, and how to quilt the backing.
