Curved Edges for Quilts
Quilts don't need to have straight edges and Philippa demonstrates two options for adding curves:
- How to design and sew the wavy curved edge style from her award-winning Bird by Bird quilt;
- How to design a scalloped border with beautiful curves and sharp points.
Hanging Sleeves
If you are going to display your quilt - in a competition or at home - you will need to add a hanging sleeve. Philippa shows how to sew:
- Hanging sleeve for a large quilt
- Hanging sleeve for a miniature quilt
- How to stop the top edge from flopping over when on display
Bindings for Hexagons and Scallops
Bindings have featured in several of Philippa's classes - and in this class you will learn how to bind edges which are not just straight lines - such as hexagons, hexagons with curves, and scalloped edges:
- Suggestions on fabric and cutting your binding strips
- How to get a perfect mitre on the inside and outside corners of hexagons
- How to deal with the sharp point of a scallop
- How to sew an invisible join for the ends

About Philippa Naylor:
Originally university trained as a clothing designer, I worked for many years in industry designing lingerie and wedding dresses. A chance meeting in 1996 led to my first quilting class - and a total change of direction in my career. Since then my original quilts and garments have been exhibited worldwide, and I have been proud to win many major awards in the USA and UK.
Travelling to teach nationally and internationally has opened up a whole new world, one which I never dreamed would be part of my life. My schedule became so busy that I was taking bookings three or more years in advance. So in order to be able to share my knowledge more widely, and to ensure all my sewing expertise is documented for everyone to gain access to, I now focus on creating on-line classes to teach and share my techniques.
